Drink For Dessert? Just Try It Once.

Wine is good for the heart, beer for your kidneys and premium scotch for the mind. All these in moderation, of course. Healthy drinking, may sound like an oxymoron, but with rise of gluten-free, chemical-free and herb –infused versions, it’s a trend worth latching onto. Post-dinner drinks, mostly digestive’s, are enjoying a renaissance in cocktail menus worldwide. These drinks range from dark herbal medicinal drinks to lighter, bitter drinks. Their flavors are a mix of herbs, roots, barks, berries, spices, flowers and citrus peels.

Drink as dessert-

Whetting your appetite with a drink is passé. Whether its dessert wines, cordials or brown liquors, after dinner sips and digestive’s are currently having a moment. When you are ordering a digestive instead of a dessert, you are cutting down on calories in a big way. There’s no denying that digestive has sugar in it, but the quantity is nowhere near what you find in a slice of cake or a scoop of ice-cream. If you are a health conscious drinker, you need to be wise while ordering a dessert drink. It isn’t alcohol but the mixers, syrups and sodas that really bring up the calories.

Herb blends-

Aperitifs are meant to stimulate your appetite and prepare your system for the meal ahead, while digestive’s help you digest the meal. Most spirits that are consumed as after-dinner drinks today were perceived as elixirs in the 18th century, a quick solution to bad throat, uneasy stomach and other ailments.
